LG Outline July 2025 – WEEK 1

DIVINE RESET – DAVID’S SEASON

Week 1: EMBRACING THE RESET

During this study, we will be doing a ‘deep dive’ into a scriptural passage. It is strongly encouraged that you study the passage and entire chapter ahead of the study. Also be prepared with your research tools, for example Google or your study Bible, as you will need to reference it during the study. Spend time answering and discussing each question with the intention to gain sufficient understanding to help your own private Bible study as you further explore these topics.

Study Chapters: 2 Samuel 1–10

Pilot text

2 Sam 1:1-4

1 Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag, 2 on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul’s camp with his clothes [a]torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself. 3 And David said to him, “Where have you come from?” So he said to him, “I have escaped from the camp of Israel.” 4 Then David said to him, “How did the matter go? Please tell me.” And he answered, “The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”

2 Sam 5:1-4

1 Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh.

2 Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the Lord said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.’ ”

3 Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel.

4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

Key things to consider as you discuss this week’s outline:

  • The divine reset had already taken place – David was anointed long before he was enthroned. And now Saul and his children had been taken out of the way, not by David’s intervention, but in the course of time.
  • Renewal begins with recognizing what God has already done and aligning our mindset with His timing and purpose.
  • David’s journey to kingship was not linear, but God’s promise remained intact.

Discussion Points

  1. What does it mean to “embrace the reset”? How do we see David doing this in chapters 1-10?
  2. How did David’s mindset shift once he was finally crowned king? What can we learn from his response?
  3. What role does grief and letting go play in embracing a new season? (See 1 Sam 16:1 and 2 Sam 1:11-12)
  4. How do we renew our minds to align with what God has already done? (See Rom 12:2)

Closing thoughts:

David’s enthronement was not the beginning of his calling – it was the manifestation of a promise made long before. The divine reset had already occurred in the spiritual realm; David’s role was to walk into it with a renewed mind and heart. Renewal is not about striving for something new – it’s about stepping into what God has already prepared. This requires discernment, humility, and a willingness to let go of the past.

Application Questions (use scriptures to support your position):

  1. “Sometimes we miss the reset because we’re still grieving the past.” Agree/disagree with reasons.
  2. A friend says, “I feel stuck. I know God has more for me, but I don’t know how to move forward.” How would you counsel them using David’s story?
